Bloomberg Institute Assessment Test (BAT)

Im gonna sit for this test next Wednesday. And I have been searching around what is the test for and how to ace the test. These are what I have collected so far.

About the test:
- How long? It is a 3 hour test.
- How many questions? 150 questions to be exact.
- Why the test? It claims that it will help students who want to work in FINANCE demonstrate to financial employers that they are strong potential recruits, adding a powerful data point to their educational and personal background (by writing in your CVs).
- What are the questions like? They are MCQs wich 4 choices for each question.
- What are the questions about?
The most recent sample questions provide questions in 10 different sections:
(1) Economics -
(2) Financial Statement Analysis -
(3) Corporate Valuation (CFA's equivalent: Corporate Finance) -
(4) Investment Banking (CFA's equivalent: Equity) -
(5) Financial Markets (CFA's equivalent: Fixed-income Investments) -
(6) Investment Management -
(7) Verbal Skills -
(8) Math Skills -
(9) Analytical Reasoning -
(10) Situational Judgment (CFA's equivalent: Ethics)-
(11) Modelling [new section] - 5Qs

It can be easily seen that the BAT is a mixture of the CFA level 1 and 2 (I believe) and an assessment test (numerical & verbal skills).

Currently the test is free and it claims that with a good enough score, and if you agree to let your information available to be searched for in the database, employers could reach you and schedule an interview for available positions. I don't know whether the claim is true or not, but the test is totally free and you will get a report comparing your result with your peers, how you are doing in each sections, so why not go for it? The career advisor at my university told us that if we got a really high score, we could put it into our CV as well.

The strategy: I will review my CFA level 1 and 2 materials before the test. And maybe I will read some psychometric assessments books as well. (Will update later!).

Actually I didn't have much time to prepare for the test. It turned out that my result is not good as well. There are some sections that I got the scores above the average (I don't know whether they are comparing my scores with other finance or non-finance students), some I got it below average (those that I was guessing as I run out of time). Anw, I took it and I think the test is quite exhausting and demanding. Some of my friends quit the test in the middle, saying that they only do the sections that they know well as some sections are really heavy about finance and investment banking stuffs. After taking the test Im feeling a little disappointed as it was held really unprofessionally at my school. The proctor coming from Bloomberg Institute (which advises us to dress professionally if we are gonna have the test at one of its exam centers) dressed very casually & informally. And he wasn't even on time, blaming it for the traffic jam >"< The computer workshops that were used for the test were being scheduled for some classes at the same time... So there were kinda confusions to all of us who were queuing there wondering WTH!
